pins
im planning on making a slipjoint with SS handles. where can i find ss pins that will blend in with 440c and will SS pins peen just like brass ones? THX

Most of the knife supply houses have pin stock in 416 or 410. Just like with the liners we discussed, if you want to match 440C but can't find what you need in 440C stock, use what you can find in the 4xx materials. That's all the choices the market gives us.
On the peening, yes you peen the same way, but no it won't be exactly the same, not quite as easy. Stainless steel is much firmer than brass and won't squash and flow quite the same as brass pins do. It will require some practice but you'll get it .... |
