Know What You Are Selling
We've all seen eBay knives listed as something they are not. Here is an example of a REAL sleeper and the seller doesn't seem to know what he has!

I spotted that one too, Rick!
That unusual and rare stamping on the blade caught my eye right away. I would ask knowledgeable members to explain all the features that make this "Astro" knife (model #17) a true Randall rarity. Since there are eight days left and the high bid is already at $1,125.00, I'm sure the final bid will be much higher. The seller may not yet be in the know, but I'll bet that the buyers are. By the way, although eBay keeps the bidders identity private, it is sometimes possible to figure out who the bidder is by the number of feedback shown. Also, I can never understand why folks who are interested in an item cannot wait until the final minute to place their bids. By showing their hand early on, all they succeed in doing is to drive up the price (seller's delight). And no folks, I will not be bidding on this. Cheers! David,
The two line trademark is etched and the knife was Rhodium plated. Here is Gus Grissom's Astro. |

Bidding is now over 2,000. Looks like the buyers know what it is. With 7 days to go it should go high.

They also know who Salvo was now too from the other forum.

Folks,
In the "Question and Answer" section of the auction description it appears that the seller has now been informed by at least two eBay members as to exactly what he has put up for auction. The price of this early "Astro" continues to climb. A quick Googling of Lt. Colonel Joseph P. Salvo finds his recent obituary at the top of the top of the page: Lt. Colonel Joseph P. Salvo This is a sale from Salvo's estate. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

I forgot to mention that Bob Gaddis's excellent book, "Randall Made Knives: The History of the Man and the Blades" contains a very detailed chapter (11) on the conception and evolution the "Astro" knife (pages 171-194). It makes for a fascinating read.

Looks like it's being bid up by a couple of guys with deep pockets also. This could sky rocket.

What a surprise folks!
The seller pulled his auction five days early. Quote:
This is what really turns me off about some sellers and buyers. What happened to ethical behaviour? Oh wait a minute, I think I know... David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Ahh Ha!
The seller now knows what he is selling, thanks in large to information passed on to him by Randall collectors, and he has relisted the NASA ISSUE 1960s RANDALL MODEL 17 ASTRONAUTS KNIFE It'll be interesting to see how much it goes for. Looks like his reason for pulling the first auction was adding better info. Nice to see it wasn't to take a back door offer.

I'm also glad that it will be a real auction, with informed bidders. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

I think he may have irritated some potential players by pulling it to start with. Anyone that would bid on it already knew what it was and they may feel like they are being jerked around.
