Steve,
Great story and knife! After I got drafted in early '67 and found out I was headed East, I wanted to bring a knife because I had used one most of my life. I was concerned about losing my Dad's Hunter and I couldn't afford to buy my own Randall so I picked up a Schrade Old Timer and carried that during my tour. This is the only pic I have with me and that knife shortly after I arrived in country taken at the 99th Replacement Battalion 9th Infantry Division 12/67. It served me well and I ended bringing the knife home but haven't been able to find it for years. Must have gotten lost in a move or a divorce. Best, Ron |

My first RMK was a Solingen Model 14 I got in 1977. I remember seeing a Model 3 back then and thinking how nice it looked with the graceful curves in the blade shape. I did not start "collecting" RMKs until 2002 when I finally got a Model 3. Soon after I saw the even prettier curves on the Model 27 and third RKS knife. I have always thought that women, cars and knives look best when they have nice curves.

You have a flashing low #27 light, you need to get some more. Strange, I like 27s, but I don't have one in my collection.
Is that your Z06, BTW? |

Byrdguy,
..For us old guys who saw performance cars get slower and slower and uglier too after the 60s these newer Corvettes are amazing. This pure stock ZO6 is faster and handles WAY better than anything I drove back then. I was looking for a C6 Z51 when this C5 ZO6 showed up locally for too nice a price to pass up. Jeff |

Yeah, they are both awesome, beastly yet civilized. Yeah, and a "too nice a price" leaves more money for model 27s!!

What I would like to know is who ended up with the RKS#3 with the ivory spacers?
Anyone have a clue? I find it unusual that no one knows! __________________ See Ya, Chief David Francis |

Interesting turn this thread has taken. I was introduced to Randalls while in the passenger seat of a '67 Vette convertable (front seat, guys!). It was a 'Nam era Model 1, stacked leather handle. I don't remember much more.
The 15 Airman was the one that got me hooked, even though I bought it to give away. (I bought a second and still have it.) After that I became fickle, changing favorites faster than shoes. My holy grail remains the Model 27 although I can't bring myself to buy one. Guess I already know it will be my forever favorite and I still want to play the field... as it were. |

To me,it's not how many I have rather having the ones with my story. Being fortunate to get the build 4 is especially fun. The fine Capt Chris called me earlier this week and said it is ready,so I sent him the check and I'll get it probably next week. So there is another story for one of my special Randalls. Thanks for allowing me to participate and learn with every posting.I am lucky and extremely grateful. Tom #3081
I'll post the picture on knife talk forums as I cannot get photo to be sized for this forum. That's my least favorite thing , to be technically whipped. |

Hi RedElk!
Chief's right that if you have a favourite Randall, you should have at least two of them. Since Chief is the mathematics expert on this forum, I'm sure he meant that in the case of the "Trailblazer", you should have at least FOUR, since you must also have a #27 with a #25 handle. (You can also get one of each type in brass and the other in nickel silver, not to mention various kinds of insert materials.) Chief, wouldn't that make eight then? Help... Anyway start with one Martha, and you can still play the field. RMK don't get jealous. Cheers! Moosehead __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |
