The other buckle I saw also appeared on eBay several years ago, and as I recall it sold from about four to five hundred.

By the way, I hope I didn't leave the impression that the one I posted belongs to me. I discovered it by accident while Googling for information about Stoddard's.

I just wish I had the new software that can turn a photo into a material object.

Cheers!

David
I was able to buy S/N011 on Ebay recently which was also matched up to Stoddard's #166 knife. I'm pretty sure they never got close to 100 of the buckles before the knife was discontinued.
The Ebay records don't go back to 2011 but I'm not so sure that I didn't buy that one from then. Don't know who had it or how they obtained it but it was sold thru Northwest Knoives in Oregon.

Congrats 505Gibbs!

That's a great score, especially getting the Stoddard's buckle and knife together.

I was watching the auction you won and I'm very glad that the pair went to one of our members.

Don't forget to post some pics when you have a chance.

Cheers!

David

Thanks 505Gibbs for posting pics of your Stoddard's Special and the accompanying cool belt buckle. They make a fabulous looking pair and they are rare as well!

Do you know what kind of wood the handle is made of? It looks like Ironwood to me.

If you aren't certain, perhaps one of the lurkers who frequent this forum will be able to tell us.

Cheers!

David

David - it appears to be ironwood. Not a lot of figure to it or it has dakened over time. I also have one in the briar wood & can say for certain its not that material. I've seen them in ivory but I'd say those are really scarce!!
