Randall 10-3 acquisition

I recently picked up this cool little 10-3. Can't quite make out the Micarta color. I'm thinking black with some fading?
I'm dating it mid 70's-'79? I believe 1979 from my understanding, that's approx when the blade stamp went from horizontal to slightly angled.
Interesting, I read that the 10-3 wasn't available till 1984, or offered in the Randall catalog till 1992, but I saw them cataloged in the 1991 Green Catalog Crider collection as made in 1976.

If you are not aware, Mitchell Harrison has a great website devoted to many things Randall.

Any opinions on Micarta color, and approx year?

Most definitely a big brother Steve. Any opinion of approx year made? Looks like the same color Micarta too. Or is it a green?
Thanks for posting a picture.

Can't remember exactly--I may have ordered it in the early to middle 1970's--but that is only a guess. It came with that Johnson sheath. It has tight stitching, so that would be the work of Maurice Johnson; he started making sheaths for Randall in the late 1960's and continued until the late 70's (maybe early 80's). After that I believe a different sewing machine was used, one that had a wider stitching (like the stitching on your sheath, maybe).

(I ordered black micarta.)

Thanks Steve. Good eye on the stitch difference.
If you look at this picture of the Green catalog Crider collection item #P-301 appears to be a loose stitch sheath, made in 1980. Also, on that stag model 10, the blade stamp is slightly angled. The one just to the left of it, #P-104 is made in 1976 with a horizontal stamp like ours. The claim is that the stamp went slightly angled in 1979. These pics seem to confirm that. So if Rhett was right in the made date of 1980 on #P-301 then that 2nd machine was probably being used as early as 1980.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge about that will post about it too.
Thanks again Steve
Regards, Sam

Yes, I'd also like to know more accurately about dating these.
