1960's King Faisal II Set
Well, it's been a long time coming, but I finally received my knives today! I want to thank Ronnie Darby for the lead on this incredible pair! 20 minutes of polishing and they turned out great!

Great Bill...they look really interesting. Would love to see some hi-res and close ups especially of hilts, stamps, pommels, etc. Cool.

Bill, in my opinion, probably made in 1964 and 1965 based on the blade stamp, collar and pommel grooving, and retaining nut. Type two stamp. I've seen quite a few knives from this '64-'66 time period with yellow-paint two grit stones. Either stones were substituted, or the knife was sold and shipped a year or two after it was completed, or yellow-paint was introduced in 1965 (which I suspect is true).
Note: No one has actually studied and documented the date for the first appearance of yellow painted stones so far as I know. Most folks have just repeated the "common knowledge" mantra. Last edited by Jacknola; 04-27-2016 at 07:38 PM. |

My thoughts exactly on the date. It personally doesn't matter to me if I know the exact date of this pair, except that I am "100% CERTAIN" that they are older than the pair that Dominique Beacant has listed on ebay for $5500.00! lol

Very nice, Bill. I'm not a big knife guy (11's or 12's), but this set is special. Congrats.

King Faisal II set
Thanks Ron, I know that you're fond of the Model 3, And I'm on the prowl for a stag handled, seven spacer 3-7" to compliment a few others of similar design.

I'll keep an eye out, Bill. Is a handle pin or brown buttons a requirement?

No it is not. Mid to late 60's is preferable. (and cheaper)

Bill chances are it will be difficult at best to find the correct sheath for the toothpick but I hope we can find you one. I will be looking.

After having this pair in my possession, I believe that the sheath is original from the shop because the keeper snap is set in the proper position to actually retain the blade. All of the others that I have had wouldn't reach the male end by a 1/4".

That makes sense but for the forward curve hilt and the straight sheath.
