"Wasp neck" 3-6
One of my absolute favorite 3-6's:
Late 50's. The choil is so deep that there's not a whole lot of metal coming off the hilt. This one has a longer than typical bottom quillion. The abbreviated top quillion also protrudes higher than is comfortable if you're choking up on the grip. The sheath is by Heiser made during the very brief (2nd) time they and the shop ran out of brown buttons. In the hand it feels more like a 7-5 than a 3-6. Best, Ron |

And I really like you're new old style EDC Model 8, Peter. Great piece of stag! IMO you can't do any better than that for a user. Touche.

An excellent looking Model 3. You say it feels like a Model 7. I think it even looks alot like a Model 7. You use the term "Wasp Neck", I have never heard that term used before. Is that one our your terms or is it a term that is used in describing any knife with a very deep choil, similar to yours? I am never too old to learn, just too old to remember all I am told!!! __________________ ----------- Rod Brown RKS 3846 |

Great looking knife Ron!
Rod, I'm not too sure about the meaning of the term "wasp neck", but I'll guess it refers to the spacers. I'm sure Ron will let us know when he has a chance. In the meantime, here's a photo of one I took about four years ago: Cheers! David P.S. Ron, is that the one that stung you a couple of weeks ago? __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Hi Rod,
For sure it's a Model 3. Blade thickness was ~ 1/4" before grinding and it's a full 6". I'm not sure where I pulled that term from. I'd like to think I coined it, but I can't rule out hearing it from someone before in the past. Memory is just that bad David, The "neck" being where the blade comes off the hilt. Not much there like the wasp's neck. Great pic by the way! Best, Ron |

Very cool old model 3 and in fantastic shape. I believe that the guy I bought the older model 8 from has some more older Randalls, and I will ask him to bring them to the gun show in December, and see what may follow me home. Good luck on getting your hands on one or more, Peter. Worse case if you can take a couple of photos of the guy's old Randalls and post them that would be great.
Best, Ron |
