screw problem

The folder I am making calls for 0-80 stainless screws on the bolster and 0-80 black anodized screws on the slabs. The shaft of the black screws are .060 while the stainless are .058. I use a #55 drill and tap with an 0-80 tap. The stainless fit great but the black will not fit in the holes. If I try and force them through in order to strip off the oxidization they simply break in the hole. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Steve

Beats me, Steve. Your drill is plenty large enough for the tap. Could the black screws be metric?

I highly doubt it. I simply ordered 0-80 in black. I thinkk the problem is the coating that makes them black. It is just thick enough to add that .002 which makes it not work. Maybe I can use the stainless ones and paint the tops.
Thanks
Steve

Can you strip the coating off the thread by running the screws through the appropriate die instead of trying to force them through the tapped hole?

Have you tried removing the finish on the threads? Perhaps with a wire brush or a buffer? Perhaps they will fit then.

I ran the screws through a 0-80 die and that worked really well. Thanks for the help.
