Backing up our photos?

Good morning.

I recently became aware that the photos that are a very important part of our research, is very susceptible to failure.

I use Photobucket, as my source to deposit my photos, then easily download to this site. I opened KN yesterday, and much to my dismay, found all of my photos missing! Jacks were too! I think you use Photobucket as well.

I was under the impression that once they were stored here, they were independent of our computers. After yesterday's experience, I see that they are not.

I am not a computer genius, but can figure things out.

Moderators, is there anything that we can do to avoid this type of failure?
Can we have a discussion on how we can make our photos less vulnerable, if there is a way?

Regards, Samg

Hi Sam!

When we use a photo hosting site like Photobucket (I use FotoTime), the Knife Network just permits the photos we post to appear in our posts by accessing the URL's we insert.

If the photo hosting site closes for maintenance or encounters a problem, out images disappear until the URL is back up.

I don't think there is a way to back them up on the Knife Network.

I'm far from an expert when it comes to this stuff (I know nothing), but "This is my theory and it is mine".

See here!

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

David
