Glove snaps used during shortage of brown button snaps

Here are 2 Heiser sheaths that display different glove snaps used for 2 short periods when Heiser and the shop ran out.
Notice the difference in shape between the 2?
For you guys that have seen many of them, were there different shapes used? This first example the snaps appear to be a bit thicker and rounded on the edges.

The 2nd example. These snaps appear to be flatter than the ones above. I guess it's very possible that different snaps were utilized. Any other variations or opinions?

If any of you have a sheath made in this period, can we see them to compare notes?

Here is the inside of the glove snap. The letters from top going clockwise are CUCF

Any idea the meaning of the letters? United Carr Fastener Co?

Regards, Samg

This sheath is posted on another site. Those are new replacement snaps.

Thanks, Bill. Yes, Sam: The keeper snap on the first sheath you posted a photo of is a replacement by the current owner and not a snap placed there by the shop.

Thanks Bill and Ron.
As to the other part of my question, United Carr, like the brown buttons? Have you seen variations in the glove snaps, other than color, which we see in my example above?

Regards, Sam

Here is what appears to be an old Heiser unfinished sheath with the glove snap on eBay.

Sam,

I don't think it's a Heiser for a lot of reasons. The first glaring one is the stone pocket flap: Heiser never made anything that looked like that. The guy's story is cleverly designed to align with the item he is selling. However, I doubt if he could produce pics of any of the sheaths that were "finished and had the Heiser stamp". Not to say a guy can't move, but his tale would hold more water if he was located near Denver.

He's selling another similar sheath:

This one has a larger plain metal snap. If it was made circa 1950 (When there was a stockout on brown buttons), the throat would be flared and this one's throat is not. At the same time, this one exhibits more of the Heiser features like the tooled edge and the angled throat. I've been wrong before, so it's premature to assume my opinion is fact. This is a great post for discussion, Sam. Thanks.

Ron

Here is the one Ron is describing.

Good point Ron. I will look at both of these sheaths closer.

I offered $50.00 for it but was declined.......It's not what he is trying to describe it as, but it is still a nice old sheath.

Until I saw the second sheath I would have said that the first sheath was neither Heiser or Johnson. It is just way to funky.
The second sheath, that one is interesting.
So my answer......uh I don't know.
