Domed pins
I would appreciate help on how to dome pins. I have a head spinner from TKM. I use this in my drill press, with a milling vise holding the pin. I spin the head for several seconds. Doesn't really dome the pin very well, but I figure I'll round it up with a buffer. Which I do, with a dremel. This gives a shallow dome. I'm using these in folder scales. I have the liner and scale material prepared for the pin. I slide the pin in and use a nail setter to hold the domed side of the pin, while I peen the other, liner side. This mars the dome every time, even though I've polished the nail setter many times. So - how do I get a better dome? and should I forget about peening the thing and just glue it?
Thanks for your help. Rebecca Last edited by rebglass; 04-23-2011 at 10:04 PM. |

Thanks for this. This may address part of the problem - my head spinner doesn't seem to cut very well. I don't like the appearance of the pins that are domed after they're installed. Don't like the little "mote" that the spinner digs around the pin. I'm trying to get the look of the domed pin sitting nicely on top of the handle material - with the handle material being properly prepared before installing the pin. If that makes any sense. Thanks for the link.
